Earn and Spend Loyalty Points on Hike

Earn & Spend Loyalty Points on Hike

When retail stores enable loyalty points for their customers to use, they provide an incentive for customers to return and keep shopping. Indeed, a loyalty program feature can be your best marketing tool where you even send periodical emails to your customers, promoting special events and anniversaries.

Your Hike POS loyalty program is free for you to take control as you see fit, as it is highly customizable giving you the freedom to set your own point-earning rules and rewards. For example, you could offer your customers a percentage off the marked price of a product when purchased with loyalty points or even double the points earned during a specific period.

Reward your regular customers with loyalty points for every dollar spent and attract more customers in the process. Repeat business is crucial for any retailer as it builds upon sustained traffic, and there’s no better way to make sure that happens than through loyalty points. Enable such a program on Hike today, and give your customers points on sign-up in just a few clicks!

Activating Loyalty Points on Hike

The process to activate Loyalty Points on Hike is quite simple, where you can control how customers earn points on their purchases directly on one screen.

Before we look at how to more specifically manage these points, let’s first look at activating loyalty points on Hike POS.

To begin, select Store Setup on the Hike menu and navigate to the Loyalty Points screen.

1._Menu.png

Once selected, you’ll notice that you can edit the number of points a customer receives upon signing up to the loyalty program, and how much they need to spend to get 1 loyalty point.

2._Overview.png

But first, we’ll need to activate the loyalty points feature on Hike.

Simply tick the Activate Loyalty Point Rewards box to do so.

3._Activate.png

Note: This only activates loyalty points from this point onward. Your previous customers will not have loyalty points enabled, so you will need to activate them on the customer’s profile. Read our Activating Loyalty Points on Customer Profile to see how to do this.

IMPORTANT

In activating the loyalty points feature in Hike, you’ll need to ensure that you have mapped a loyalty points liability account for your integrated accounting software.

To do this, you need to access Store Setup > Integrations > Sync Settings (by clicking on the Actions button next to your accounting platform).

Once here, you will need to locate the Loyalty Liability Account and choose a corresponding account. It is important that these settings are correctly applied for seamless loyalty points recording in your accounting software.

The general rule for loyalty points is:

If a customer earns 100 Loyalty Points, they can use this to pay 1 Dollar / Pound / etc. towards a purchase.

Earn Loyalty Points

The beauty of having loyalty points built into Hike POS is that you can choose exactly how your customers will earn their points.

Once you have activated loyalty points, there are three ways in which you affect the way customers will earn loyalty points on Hike.

Add or Edit Points

There is no option to directly add or edit the loyalty points balance for a customer. They will always have to be earned in these ways:

  1. Earn Loyalty Points from Sign-Up

As mentioned in the Activating Loyalty Points article, you can edit the number of points a customer can earn when you sign them up to Hike. When customers first have their details added to Hike, they are automatically assigned however many points you set.

Refer to our Activating Loyalty Points article, for instructions on how to edit this screen.

  1. Earn Loyalty Points from Money Spent

You can edit the number of points a customer can earn when they make a purchase, again through the Activate Loyalty Points screen.

When customers are signed up for the Loyalty Program, and make a purchase, they automatically earn points for every Dollar / Pound / Lira / Euro / (Chosen Currency) earned.

Refer to our Activating Loyalty Points article, for instructions on how to edit this screen.

  1. Earn Loyalty Points from Money Spent on Specific Products

Hike also lets retailers edit the number of points a customer can earn from a particular product.

To do this, simply select Products from the Hike Menu and navigate to the Products screen.

From here, you will select the product you wish to change the number of points assigned to it, by editing the Additional Loyalty Points field.

For example, if you enter the number 20 in the field when a customer purchases that product, they will receive 20 additional points.

Value of Loyalty Points

Also, take note of the value of your loyalty points in terms of currency. The general rule for loyalty points is:

100 Loyalty Points = 1 Dollar / Pound / Lira / Euro / (Chosen Currency)

If a customer earns 100 Loyalty Points, they can use this to pay 1 Dollar / Pound / etc. towards a purchase.

Spend Loyalty Points

Once customers start earning points, they will undoubtedly want to use them the next time they shop in your store.

Doing so is very easy where you will simply assign a customer to a sale, add items to the receipt card and click on PAY.

8._Cart.png

Next, on your payment transaction screen, you will see the option Reward Points needs to be selected.

9._Payment.png

The Reward Points button will let you know exactly how much a customer can spend using loyalty. It will display both the monetary value and the total points; the customer has so far accrued.

10._Reward_Points.png

If the total cost of the sale is less than the Reward Points the customer currently has, and the customer would like to purchase the items using the points, then by simply clicking on the button the transaction will be complete.

If the reward points do not match the full sale amount, then simply change the amount tendered to match the amount noted and click on Reward Points to make the payment. You will then need to pay the remaining balance with one of the other payment methods available to you.

View Loyalty Points

To see how many loyalty points a customer has, you can view their details by selecting Customers on the Hike menu and navigating to the Customer screen.

Select the name of the customer you wish to view, and you will find their total loyalty points underneath the Edit screen.

11._Customer.png

Customer Loyalty Email

The Customer Loyalty Email exists for new customers that have joined the store and the loyalty program, where they will get an email explaining the loyalty points system – assuming they have provided an email address.

In Hike POS you can personalize the email content to your specifications, and to do this simply go to Store Setup > Loyalty Points.

Under Email Template, click on the EDIT button.

6._Email.png

This will pop up the email template, that will be sent out to your customers once they have joined.

Note: Any words that appear as #text# will be the store name or customer name pulled from the database. We recommend you keep any text line like this as is.

Aside from that, however, you are free to edit the email as you wish. This is simply a standard, default setting so you can add any other pertinent information about your store on the template if you are so, please.

Once you have completed all your changes, click on SAVE to finalize the email.
