FAQ on Integration with Shopify - Products

Hike allows you to set up the integration with Shopify. Regarding how to set it up, please refer to How to integrate Shopify with Hike. In this article, we are trying to answer some of the questions frequently asked about the product syncing with Shopify.

Will adding, editing and deleting products sync between Shopify and Hike?

Adding products
  1. Simple products: Yes, in both ways.
  2. Products with variants: Yes, in both ways.
  3. Composite products: No. As composite products can only be applied through 3rd-party plugins in Shopify and Shopify doesn’t sync data generated by plugins due to API limitations, composite products can’t sync between Hike and Shopify.
Editing products
Yes, for most of the information. Some fields (attributes) of the product information can’t sync. Please refer to What product attributes will sync? for further information.
Deleting products
No, deleting products in Hike or Shopify will not trigger the deleting operation to be performed on the other. If you would like to delete a product from both Hike and Shopify, you need to perform deletion in Hike and Shopify separately.

How can I only sync some of the products?

Hike → Shopify: You can keep the box “Ecommerce” unchecked, as shown in the image below, if you don’t want a product to sync to Shopify.

The product editing page in Hike. Visiting path: Products > Products

Shopify → Hike: After you start syncing products from Shopify to Hike, it will sync all the existing products in Shopify. You are unable to choose some of the products only. The workaround could be manually deleting the product in Hike after syncing, as the action of deleting products in Hike will not affect the products in Shopify.
We recommend managing all the products in Hike. If you would like only some of the products sync to Shopify, uncheck “Ecommerce” in the Hike product editing page of the non-syncing ones. If you would like some products not to be sellable in Hike, change the product status to inactive, as shown in the image below.

Why did only some of my products sync?

Hike → Shopify: There could be two possible reasons.
Reason 1: If you haven’t checked the box “Ecommerce” in the product editing page, as shown in the image below, then the product won’t sync to Shopify. Hike will only sync the products with “Ecommerce” checked to Shopify.

Reason 2: If you haven’t checked the box “Send new products in Hike to Shopify” in the sync setting page, as shown in the image below, then the new products won’t sync to Shopify.

How the variant product will sync between Hike and Shopify?

Hike to Shopify: If it is a variant product in Hike all the variants will sync to Shopify and list as variant options under one product. If it is a simple product in Hike, it will sync to Shopify as a simple product.

Shopify to Hike: if it is a variant product in Shopify, it will sync as a variant product in Hike. If it is a simple product in Shopify, it will sync to Hike as a simple product.

Why aren’t the stock levels of a product matching in Hike and Shopify?

Reason 1: It might happen when you have ticked the option "Send full Shopify order to Hike and save in Hike's sales history".

Reason 2: It might also happen if you have activated weighted average coat feature in Hike. For further details, please refer to How Does The Option of Weighted Average Cost Work?
If you manually update the stock levels in Shopify, as shown in the images below or any Shopify 3rd-party plugins update them, the inventory in Hike will not get updated, which leads to the difference.

Once you finalize the integration with Shopify, you will see a sync icon next to each of them in the product list, simply click on the sync icon you will see the sync log. Then click on the Shopify icon on the top right corner it will direct you to Shopify page with the linked product.

We recommend managing stock levels only in Hike. You could either perform a stock take by following the instruction here, or import the product with correct stock level by

However, if the inconsistency happened unfortunately, the recommended solution would be to do a stocktake in Hike. Please refer to Creating & Completing Inventory Counts in Hike.

Q. Manual stock adjustment done for the product will get synced to Hike?

A. If order sync is enabled from Shopify to Hike then manual stock update done for the product won’t get synced to Hike. But it’s not the same case from Hike to Shopify. As from Hike even if you are syncing sales order to Shopify but still you will be able sync manual stock update as well.

Q. If Order sync is disabled from Shopify to Hike but option “Update inventory in Hike when an order is created in Shopify” is been ticked, then in that case Shopify order will update stock for the product in Hike?

A. Yes stock update will get synced to Hike in above case as though the order sync from Shopify to Hike is disabled but still option “Update inventory in Hike when an order is created in Shopify” is been ticked in the sync setting page. It works the same way from Hike to Shopify as well.

Q. Sales order synced from Hike to Shopify, will have Hike’s sales reference number?

A. Hike sale synced to Shopify won’t have Hike’s sale reference number, Shopify will assign its own reference, based on the order sequence rule set by Shopify. But the order history will have the record that the order is being synced from Hike. Also Hike does provides option where you can setup order reference number as per your requirement by navigating to store setup>>outlet and cash register page.

Q. How to map same products available in Shopify and Hike?

A. Products can be mapped via SKU. Enter the same SKU for the product in Shopify and Hike.

Q. If multiple Hike outlets are being merged with one Shopify location, then in that case when for the first time, products get synced to Hike, does the stock quantity also gets synced?

A. Yes at the time of initial sync the products from Shopify will get synced with available stock in Shopify, but after that no stock count will get synced from Shopify to Hike and this has been mentioned in sync setting as well.

Q. How can we check category sync?

A. We do not sync category individually so category sync cannot be tracked, how if any category is assigned to a product then it will get sync along with the product.

Q. Image and product description update gets synced between Hike and Shopify?

A. Yes product image and description update has been provided in the sync setting page.

Q. Custom field available in the product in Hike is mapped with Shopify?

A. Custom field available in Hike’s product page is not mapped with Shopify, so any information entered in that field won’t get synced to Shopify.

Q. Does Hike provides option to choose to not sync product that are not visible in Shopify?

A. Currently Hike does not provides this option, as any product i.e. visible or not, from Shopify will get synced to Hike as per the sync setting saved. However there is a work around where for the products that are not visible in Shopify, remove SKU, and in Hike’s sync setting page choose option to not sync Non-SKU products.

How to sync if there are multiple products with same name to both platforms?

When syncing products from Hike to Shopify or Shopify to Hike, the products do sync/map by the name not SKU. If you have multiple products in Hike and Shopify with the same names and want them to synced to other platform without any error, we have introduced a new feature called 'Handle' on products page.

Earlier, when trying to sync same name products, the system throws an error of duplicate products, but this feature will make it easier to sync those products.

You just need to copy the handle from Shopify for that particular product and paste it in Hike product 'Handle' section. This will map such product between Hike and Shopify and allow products with the same names to sync.

If wish to update 'Handle' section for products in bulk in Hike, you only need to export the products in excel file and enter the details under 'handle' column.
